#samplesunday success!

Well, it’s Monday and us writers are recovering from a manic weekend of self-promotion and social interaction. It’s almost a relief to come to work! ;-)

Anyway, I just wanted to give a big shout out to #samplesunday and say what a HUGE success it has been once again.

For those of you who don’t know what it is (where have you been for the last two months!?) here’s a quick overview:

Writers – post a sample (couple of chapters, short story, book blurb etc) on your site or blog. Stick the hashtag #samplesunday in the post title. (It is advised to do this on Saturday and then have it ready for midnight to catch the different time zones)

Then, at 11.59 on Saturday evening, with your tired fingers hovering over those already-worn keys, press ‘publish’!

Copy the link to your blog/site where the post is hosted and any other hashtags or words that you want in the Twitter message and head on over to Kindleboards and Facebook. There, you will find that the wondrous Mr. Gerald Hornsby (or one of his elves) has posted a thread for you to stick the link into.

Head back over to Twitter and Tweet the link and hashtag.

Then, click on the #samplesunday hashtag and look at all the other poor, desperate, indie writers who have also spent all of Saturday evening twitching at their pc’s and RT their Tweets at regular intervals throughout Sunday.

Simples! ;-)

Hopefully, you will see a great deal more hits to your blog/site and if you’re really lucky, you might just sell a few books because people think your writing is fab. If nothing else, you will be left with a warm, fuzzy feeling in your tummy, because you have helped your fellow authors.

Sunday’s will never be the same again!

Just a quick share.

If, like me, you spend a lot of time Twittering and ‘liking’ and status updating the World Wide Web, chances are that you use a lot of links. When you only have 140 characters to get your message across on Twitter, then being succinct is vital.

This great link shortener from bitly is an absolute gem and a writer’s new best buddy!

Twitter ye’ not

Hello again…

Brrrrrrr! It is currently -14 here in Britain and we are struggling to keep warm!

Amid the snow shovelling and skating around the roads on four wheels, I have attempted to spend some time on developing my social media platform. Everywhere I look, I am being told that it is essential as a new writer to  build up my on-line profile and ignore this at my peril.

I have always been an internet addict anyway, but it is only now that I am dipping my toe into the dreaded ‘p’ pond and attempting to create an online persona.

It’s hard to know where to start! Twitter, Facebook, Google, MySpace, Wattpad, Smashwords, Amazon (I could go on!)… how much is too much? I find it hard enough to keep up with this blog, update a web-site, hold down a full-time job and promote Sugar & Spice, let alone update one or all the above! So, is it manageable?

Do you pick one or two of these media giants and stick to to keeping them updated with your pearls of wisdom, or is it better to have a presence on all of them?

And most importantly, when am I supposed to actually write? ;-)
